7:30pm Tuesday 9th March
Wenlock Room Shirehall, Shrewsbury
Dear All, I as Chairman of the new steering committee, would again like to invite you to attend a meeting of the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Angling Action Group. It is intended this Action Group will be a cohesive module for the two primary Angling representative bodies of Telford Angling Association and Shropshire Anglers Federation. Who represent their own respective areas and club membership. This also must include individual private clubs who stand alone, that will have the need for "Clubmark". You in particular are most welcome. Shropshire Anglers Federation have in the short term offered the STW-ADB space on its website to allow the STW-ADB to hit the ground running. Please keep abreast of news via this website "shropshireanglersfederation.in". It is intended in due course for the STW-ADB to enter into producing its own website, however this will take time. So for the time being it is hoped the offer by the SAF is accepted in the candour offered. Many benefits are available through STW-ADB to clubs throughout Shropshire. From funding, training, advice and support. Even as a by-product a highly intensive affordable Angling Club Insurance policy. Encompassing public liability, Bailiff staff, work parties, club members and most importantly Committee members. The steering Committee created, is unusual in content. Being minimal in standard officers, however sporting no less than four Development Officers. Individually, Schools D.O. Clubs D.O. Finance/Funding D.O. and Coaching/ Training D.O. These Officers will work directly with individual clubs to obtain the various supports on offer. The whole ethos of STW-ADB being aimed upon development. This will be a milestone for Angling Development in the county as a steering committee formed at the last meeting has met and will be hopefully recommending of a fully constituted group forming with its own bank accounts to promote angling development. The group, which is still open for anyone with an interest in angling to attend, will be responsible for supporting clubs in obtaining " clubmark" accreditation, an open door to engage with young anglers in schools. These young anglers will then be able to come into clubs and grow membership providing income and a future. Secondly identifying need for new angling coaches, running level 1 and level 2 courses and downloading funding to help with costs. Thirdly running projects to promote angling for all, and addressing issues that face anglers today. They will also become bodies to run county age groups competitions and train talented youngsters to become elite performers. Again I would urge you to attend or bring another interested party with you. You will hear what has already been achieved and wish to become part of it. It is an exciting time for angling in Shropshire. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Sir John Roberts Chairman STW-ADB WEDNESDAY 9TH MARCH Last nights meeting at Shirehall Shrewsbury went very well with good attendance, from a wide geographical area including Wolverhampton. Club officials and private commercial fishery owners attended. As Chairman of the steering committee, was able to confirm the creation of a Committee. Although somewhat unusual in make u,p with no less than four Committee members coming to the table with a variety of experience. We were able to create four posts as Development Officer, for his particular speciality. A constitution will be created at the next committee meeting, a draft already waiting for aproval. For presentation to the next full meeting Tuesday 25th May 7.30 pm Wenlock Room Shirehall Shrewsbury. Put it in your diary NOW! It is intended this year in conjunction with the Education Department of Shropshire Council to roll out a programme of instruction sessions on angling. Followed by Junior Competitions, intended as an "ability knock" out in so many words. The cream of the crop in ability entering finally into the England Junior National competition scene. Thus giving the entrants the ability to compete on behalf of Shropshire and even England in the finals. A fine step forward, in getting youngsters fishing. Clubmark certification is becoming more important to any Angling Club in Shropshire. Clubmark ensures at a glance your club is up to standard Government guidelines. Ensures the club has a basic kit, by this I mean the basic elements for which any Council or Authority may view the club for whatever reason. The club has the ability to offer juniors or any age group experience training in angling. Risk assessment, basic First Aid, some degree of commonsense and the ability to communicate are all requirements of the club responsibility. This is known as level one certification, based on one to one. Level two is up a level and level two can undertake a number of students at one time or half dozen level one under him at the same venue. So how do you achieve this Clubmark. Simple contact your relevant Development Officer Richard Davies on this website. He will help you with your application. Also introduce you to our Funding Development Officer Clive Talbot, to obtain funding to assist you in this venture. The funding is available it is up to you to ask. Schools: Come on help us to help you, contact our Schools Development Officer Joshua Richards. Clubs: Contact our Club Development Officer Jeremy Thomas. He will run you through the basics and help you with the paperwork. He is out to build our membership, this means you! No matter if you are a club or commercial water or interested individual being our first year the cost to register your club is zero. We want to encourage not discourage. If Shropshire Anglers Federation and its counterpart Telford Anglers Association are content to work together on this project, as they are. Then this speaks volumes as to the depth of feeling and the need to succeed. It can succeed and only succeed with the backing of the individual clubs irrespective of location or affiliation to whichever representative entity. This is not them and us, it is you! So get Clubmark, Get peace of mind, Get represented, Get help financial and physical, Get moving
see you 25th May 7.30 start! Shropshire Anglers' Federation DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS
